Our First E.R. trip

Why is it that bad things happen in the worst of times? Daniel is gone this month at officer basic training in San Antonio. While he is slaving away in 100+ degree temps, Evalyn and I are at home in our little apartment trying to stay entertained. We didn't want to be stuck in Cali the whole time he was gone, so we went to Utah for a few days right at the beginning. Well, the day we got home we definitely weren't bored!

I had been at work training with Evalyn all morning, and my friend Katie was watching her for an hour while I had to teach new employees at training. I went and picked Ev up once I was done, and came back to our apartment. She went to town playing with her toys she had missed the past week we were away, and I sat down to eat lunch. I was watching her play, and looked away for maybe 10 seconds. Crash. Scream. Blood. Panic.

We have this vase/ceramic bowl thing that we got from our wedding. I loved whatever it is, but not so much now. I can't count how many times I have moved this thing off of our entertainment center/tv stand. Probably everyday for the past 2 months. I should have moved it completely and never put it back, but usually after E goes to bed every night we put everything back where it goes. Then the next morning, toys come back out and our house is a tornado again. Since we had just gotten home the night before from Utah, moving the vase didn't even cross my mind. And of course, my girl pulled it down off the entertainment center and it landed straight on her big toe, making a huge gash right at the base.

When she first pulled it down I thought it just scared her. I went over and scooped her up and instantly I saw the blood. She was screaming her head off and I was straight up panicking. I got a paper towel and tried to put pressure on her toe and it just made her scream louder. Blood drops were all over my bathroom floor which I didn't really realize til we got home from the hospital. I called my friend Katie (nurse) and she couldn't understand me over the phone. I dont know why--"She-breath-cut-bloo-everyw-breath" is clear english to me ;) Nevertheless she dropped what she was doing and sprinted down to my apartment. She got there, called the pediatricians office, and they said to go to the ER to have her x-rayed. Off we went. Ev had stopped crying and the bleeding had slowed. Another friend of mine went to Katies to babysit her little boy. There's no way I could have gone to the ER alone! Did I mention yet that I was a wreck?

The scene of the crime :/

 Distracting her with bubbles!
 1-2-3.

Of course this happens when Daniel is gone! Katie's husband is with Daniel in San An, and he happened to call her when she first arrived at my house. She quickly told him we were taking Evalyn to the ER, and of course 30 seconds later my cell phone rings with a very worried husband. 3 stitches on a very tiny toe and we left the ER. Luckily Evalyn was such a trooper and the stitches havent bothered her a bit over the last few days! We go back in a week to get them taken out. BIG thank you to Katie and Natalie for helping during all of this! My little girl has a hoarse voice now from screaming so much that day. At least she thinks it funny and laughs at her voice when she coughs ;)

Fingers crossed we don't have to go back to the ER anytime again soon!
