Busy Busy Busy

Week one of Daniels dental school is going well so far..but holy cow people were not joking when they said he would be busy! He leaves every morning around 7am for class at 8..then usually gets home around 530, eats dinner with me, then has to go and study in our room until about 10 o'clock.  He's nice and listens to me ramble on and on about nothing as soon as he walks in the door. Not have any human communication all day long makes me very chatty once I see him. I get so bored while he studies that I will pop my head in the room to say hi or tell him something funny I saw on tv (since that's all I seem to do these days--watch tv). I was excited when he realized that he doesn't have class on Thursdays until mid October..but then this morning he still left at 7 to go to campus and study. Haha! Crazy me for thinking it would be a play day for us. I'm still getting used to this! I'm proud of him for being so disciplined. I quiz him sometimes on anatomy terms and have no idea how he spends hours studying them..I start to fall asleep just reading the definitions. So way to go Daniel for being able to be so dedicated!

I had a job interview today for a female dentist in Beverly Hills and REALLY hope I get this job. I should find out by the end of the week if I get to go back for a working interview..fingers crossed!!

And so it begins...

Well, this week was a good one. Daniel went to orientation every day from 8-5, so luckily my mom was in town to hang out with me! She got here on Tuesday morning for Dan's white coat ceremony that afternoon. It was so fun to watch him be sworn into the dental world :) Each student had one of their assistant dean's (theres like 5 of them and one main dean) put their white coat on them, and then they went up to the podium and said their name, where and when they graduated from undergrad, and their previous major. I think I counted about 10 students that did not attend a previous university in California. Way to go Daniel for being one of the select few out-of-staters! He is also one of the few white kids in his class..I guess he's getting a taste of good old Clements High School now :) I keep being told what a great accomplishment it is for him to be accepted to UCLA by various people. He rocks. The End. Check out the few pictures we got!

For the other days that Daniel wasn't around to get to play with us, my mom and I didn't do too much. Spent some time at my aunt's house, walked around the beach, etc etc. It was so nice to have her here for a few days while I adjust to Daniel being gone all the time. Always love the mom.
The only real thing that we have been doing is trying to get into another apartment complex. Although it would be so difficult to leave our beautiful abode that we have right now...cough cough..we would be more than willing to live around other students. Lately we have had drunken parties in the courtyard, angry men screaming profanities late at night, and of course the typical girlfriends leaving the boyfriends apt in the late morning hours. Oh the single life. Can we please be around a few married couples that are old and boring like us? We sent an email requesting a transfer asap..wish us luck!! Apparently you're supposed to be pregnant to live in the other apartment complex..we were going to lie about it but then got too scared we might need proof..so no thanks :)

Life is good, but I've been missing the familiarity of Utah and having friends around lately. I am trying everyday to convince myself that change can be a good thing, so I am hoping that I start to believe it soon. I am still looking for a job..but the few dentists I have interviewed with were not impressed with the fact that I was from Utah..so I figure I don't want to work for them anyway. We will keep you updated!

A New Start

Wow..I am about as bad at this blogging thing as I am at keeping journals. But I promise to do better! So much has happened since our last post! For starters, I finished summer term classes and Daniel had to say goodbye to framing houses. He was able to have that job for several summers with his brothers and loved every second of it...except being on the roof in the blazing heat. But overall it was good for him :)

The next big event (and much bigger than the previous) was Halie and Ryans Wedding! It had been a long time coming for these two and their wedding was beautiful. Halie of course looked gorgeous as usual, and Ryan looked okay too :) We are so happy to finally have Ryan in the family and Daniel is excited to have another brother in law. No more asterisk! Here are a few pictures of their day.

The biggest event that happened for us this summer was of course moving to California. We got here about a week and a half ago and each day we have learned more and more about this interesting city called Los Angeles. It seems like every person that we spoke to before coming out here said that the area we will be living in will be "interesting". That made us a little nervous, but we have learned that "interesting" is the perfect way to describe it. We are right by Venice Beach..and the freeway :) Ha. Things are different but I think this change will be good for us. We have been able to spend the last 10 days just hanging out together until Daniel started school today. It's been really nice to be together before he gets so busy. AND I started applying for jobs yesterday and got an interview scheduled today! Life is changing but life is wonderful. I'm so proud of Daniel for all that he has accomplished and will accomplish. He's worked really hard to be here and I'm glad I get to be a part of it! We will see if I am still this positive once he gets reallllly busy :) Check out our teeny tiny new place!

This is our living room..not really decorated yet but we're workin on it!

Our bitesize kitchen..surprisingly makes cooking a lot easier when you just have to turn around to get whatever you want :)

The Pool outside of our apartment..it would be cooler if it was more than 3 feet deep!
