Tonight, besides playing words with friends with my brother in law on my phone, I was flipping through channels on TV. I came across TLC's "Sister Wives". I've seen bits and pieces of this show in the past, but never really watched a full episode till tonight. Honestly, the only thing that I kept thinking while watching this stupid show was--I hope that people are not DUMB enough to actually believe that the people in this crazy family are members of the same church that I am a part of. They are constantly referring to themselves as "Mormons" and occasionally throw the word "Fundamentalist Mormons" in front of it. There are few things that bother me more than media putting a negative connotation in relation with my faith. This family is clearly screwed up both mentally and emotionally to believe that their way of life is what our Heavenly father intended the "family" to consist of. Venting? Yes. But I've dealt with so many questions about my church my entire life--and tv shows like this just frustrate me. No, we do not practice pologamy. No, we do not offer human sacrifices (yes, I've been asked this before..ridiculous) No, we are not the same as the Omish. Yes, we use electricity. No, we don't drink alcohol. No, we don't gamble. Yes we drive cars. Come on people. Educate yourself. Ooooh my goodness. So annoying.

hahaha I love you! Also I was once told that we sacrificed cats in the temple. I just always find it odd when OTHER people tell ME what I believe....um no!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I found myself watching this show tonight as well out of pure disbelief! I feel the exact same way and I was surprised by how everyone on the show tried to act like this is normal! First of all, you can see the jealousy in each of the "wives" so there is no believing that they are all okay with their situation. It's so sad. Anyway, it just makes me think of how blessed we are to know the truth. I just hope this show doesn't turn others away from the true beliefs of the LDS church. Love you Kylie and happy growing!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I was actually going to do one just like it. I caught my older sister watching this show last night and it made me so mad! Another show that makes me angry is Big Love. And no, we do not have horns. People are stupid. The end.
